some of those purposes are to elude a fallen tree, adapt to a hostile environment by mutating their cells to adjust temperature or cloak themselves as needed, to nurse their young, gather enough food for the colder seasons & being able to determine those seasons year by year without a clock or a telescope
and along our evolutionary branch of life, our species has been provided the production of the single-most profound moment in our biological history - the evolution of the homo-sapian brain
