“The Space Race Is Over” - Billy Bragg; Glastonbury 2011; Infinite Monkey Cage
Went for a bit of a run last night. I listen to a lot of podcasts when I run because, well…education is cool, not to mention - important. Education also has no “time of day”, and informative podcasts certainly make my late night runs way more entertaining, especially when you have scientists talking, well, science!
However, last night I was listening to a podcast from Brian Cox’s ‘Infinite Monkey Cage’ & I happened to be listening to their panel at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2011. To conclude the talk, Q&A & discussion, alternative rock singer from the UK - Billy Bragg, sang one of his more influential songs that inspired him & his passion for science & education - “The Space Race Is Over”.
The video is a bit shaky, so I suggest you all press play, sit back, close your eyes & try not to have tears fall from your eyes. This wasn’t the case for me last night. I nearly dropped to my knees at this song. It will forever have significant value to me due to the relationship I have with my son & similar passion & inquiry for space exploration & scientific literacy altogether.
Enjoy & share.
